Do you need a pre-workout supplement?

What do pre-workout supplements do?

BCAAs prevent muscle damage, which means you are able to work out daily. Beta-alanine helps muscle fibers buffer lactate from the production of anaerobic energy. Creatine helps with power and also increases muscle fiber size. Caffeine assists your central nervous system with putting out more power with the same effort.

While all of the ingredients stimulate different systems, the goal is the same: better performance during a workout.

How long will a pre-workout supplement stay in your system?

Elimination for different ingredients varies, but you should expect it to stay in your system for 2 to 3 hours. If you’re doing a long workout or you’re splitting time between 2 different workouts, you may want to use an intra-workout supplement to sustain energy levels. However, most of the time, this won’t be necessary.

Why do you tingle after using a pre-workout supplement?

As we have mentioned, there are two reasons why you may tingle after using a pre-workout supplement. The product may contain beta-alanine, niacin, or both. The tingling and flushing from these ingredients is not harmful, but it can be distracting when you’re trying to work out. If you can’t deal with the tingling, try to find a pre-workout supplement that has a lower dose of these ingredients.
